Alappuzha Alleppey 'Venice of the East', figures prominently on the tourist trail as one of the major centers for backwater boat trips, served by ferries to Quilon and Kottayam in particular. One of the best-known ports along the coast of Malabar, it is often referred to as the ‘Venice of the East’.
Kuttanad Kuttanad backwater is also known as the “Rice Bowl of Kerala” because of the rich harvest of rice in the area made possible by the distinguished climate supportive of the rice plantations and of course the underwater farming.
Kollam The Kollam Backwaters is an exceedingly beautiful tourism spot in the lap of the renowned Ashtamudi Lake, making it the gateway to the magnificent backwaters of Kerala. The beautiful lake stretches across 30 per cent of the entire Kollam
Kottayam Kottayam is known as the land of three Ls – Lakes, Latex and Letters. The place is well known for being host to beautiful sceneries presented by a large number of inland canals, streams and placid lakes flowing through the vicinity in their full youth.
Kochi Kochi (Cochin) - Queen of the Arabian Sea: Kochi is group of islands on Lake Vembanad, which opens out into the Arabian Sea. Some of the islands are Bolgatty, Vyppin, Gundu and Vallarpadam. Half the fun of visiting Kochi is moving around on the local ferries. A conducted cruise through the winding waterways will take you to several quaint spots.
Kamarakom Kumarakom is situated 15 km from Kottayam on the Vembanad lake is best described as a picturesque clean village like most places in Kerala. Kozhikode Kozhikode, previously known as Calicut, is an important and scenic town in North Kerala. The name Kozhikode is derived from the Malayalam word for the crowing of a cock. The area around Kozhikode was ruled by local rulers called Zamorins who traded with merchants from Arabia. In 1498 the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama landed at Kappad Beach, near Kozhikode.
Kassaragod The northernmost district of Kerala, Kasaragod is situated on the seacoast with the Western Ghats on its east and northern borders. Backwater trips on the Chandragiri river at Valiyaparamba are fascinating experiences.
Trivandrum The extensive backwaters of Trivandrum provide the picturesque view of a paradise.
