Climate of Kerala


The climate of Kerala can be best described as to be tropical in nature. Bestowed with a pleasant climate, Kerala has all the advantages of been located in the vicinity to the sea. Climate of Kerala can be studied by dividing it in 4 seasons, namely, winters, summers, southwest monsoon and northeast monsoon.

Winter Season: Though the climate of Kerala is cool throughout the year, winter has its own charm. Beginning at the end of November, winters in Kerala lasts till the middle of February. Minimum temperature of Kerala in winters is on an average 18°C but sometimes it also falls down to as low as 10°C, whereas the maximum temperature can go up to 28°C.

Summer Season: Summers in Kerala starts from March and last till the end of May and sometimes till the beginning of June followed with an onset of monsoons. As compared to other states, summers in Kerala are pleasant and cool with the maximum temperature 36°C and minimum temperature of 32°C.

Rainy Season: As far as rainy season in Kerala, God's Own Country is considered; it is blessed with plentiful rainfall. There are mainly two types of rainy season in Kerala, namely, southwest monsoon, also known as Edavappathi that lasts from June to September and northeast monsoon, also known as Thulavarsham that lasts from October to December. Kerala receives maximum rainfall in the month of July. Rainy season has a major role in determining the climate of Kerala.

Best Time To Visit Kerala: Although going on Kerala Tours is a pleasure round the year, winters are considered as the best time to visit Kerala. The winters are the best time to travel to Kerala as it is never too chilly and the humidity of the monsoon season is lacking.
